In a standard home inspection, inspectors test the plumbing by operating the drains at the time of the inspection, but sometimes there are issues that can't be seen by just flushing the toilet and running the sinks. That is where sewer camera inspections come in!
In a sewer camera inspection, we will look at the main sewer laterals using the cleanouts outside the house to inspect the lateral line out to the street and the lateral line underneath the structure. This provides the buyer with great information about the type of sewer line material, and if there are any visible areas of improper slope, blockages, broken pipes, tree roots, etc. This can help the buyer avoid repairs a few years down the line when conditions have become bad enough that a plumber gets called! Often times these repairs can be extensive and rather expensive if the issue is under the house or driveway.
So don't get stuck a few years down the road. Know what your drain lines look like now and avoid the surprise of having to replace/repair your sewer laterals!
